Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation patients are empowered through individualized programs to reach goals of increased independence.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy usually starts with getting people stronger and more mobile, especially through the legs and the rest of the body. Stroke survivors get extra work on motor control so everyday movements start to feel more reliable again. If a resident has had an orthopedic surgery the sessions shift toward coordination, balance, and walking. Residents coming off hip or knee replacements spend time on overall strength, range of motion, and endurance so they can handle more of their day.

Alongside the physical work, staff teach practical skills: how to manage pain, how to move in ways that cut the risk of new injuries, and how to stay aware of safety so residents can look after their own well-being. Following evaluation, the physical therapist develops an individualized treatment program for each patient.

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapists at Courtyard Care Center use task-directed activities to treat patients whose functional abilities and independence doing daily activities have been impaired by illness, injury, or aging.

Occupational therapy assists our our residents in adapting to their social and physical environment by mastering tasks essential to daily living. Therapists may work with patients who have debilitating arthritic conditions or those with difficulty bathing, dressing, and other daily living activities. They assist our patients with impaired vision and/or hearing to function well in their environment.

Speech Therapy

Our speech therapists provide a myriad of services, including assessment, education, and treatment for language, voice, articulation, and fluency disorders. Resident treatment programs are directed towards improving communication skills and safe swallowing.

We assist in rehabilitating residents who struggle with comprehension, memory, processing, and expression abilities. We also instruct the resident or the caregiver in techniques ranging from head positioning to promoting safe swallowing at a slower rate to clearer speech and how to compensate if they cannot be rehabilitated to their prior level of performance.

Patient family members are encouraged to participate in therapy sessions to provide support and encouragement.
